Membership Committee Update

October 5, 2009

At the May Board Meeting, it was agreed that the society needed an active membership committee. This past September, a committee consisting of several VOS members from around the state was convened to discuss how to enhance membership benefits and increase VOS membership enrollment.

The committee is analyzing several initiatives including:

  1. Group discounts for new members and renewing members.
  2. An active recruiting program with a facts, achievements and benefits statement provided to all members and nonmembers. This would also include personal phone calls from VOS members to nonmembers around the state allowing for open discussion of the importance of being actively involved in the VOS.
  3. Incorporating practice management issues in our annual conference.
  4. Promoting legislative advocacy efforts to potential new members.
  5. Continuing legislative updates to current members.
  6. Developing an online forum or regional meeting to discuss legislative and practice management issues.
  7. Creating a survey that would be used to investigate state-wide reimbursement, compensation, coding, and other information that would be of interest to VOS members. The access to this survey would be limited to only members participating in the group billing program.

I would like to thank Dr. Boardman, President of VOS, as well as the following members of the Recruitment Committee for their enthusiasm and effort in this initiative: Drs Kevin Fricka, Eric Neff, Mike Kovac, John Mann, T.K. Miller, Marion Herring, and David Romness. I would also like to thank Stewart Hinckley, Executive Director of VOS, Andrew Mann, VOS Association Manager, and Kim Battle, Membership Manager.

The Committee is interested in any input from our current members on how we can enhance VOS membership benefits. Please do not hesitate to contact our society office with ideas at (804) 565-6325 or by e-mail to: vos@societyhq.com

Sincerely,
A. Bobby Chhabra, MD
President-Elect VOS
