John W. Mann III, MD

I am very pleased to be the new Member at Large of the Virginia Orthopaedic Society, nominated at the last meeting in Wintergreen.

I have been in practice in Roanoke, Virginia for eleven years.  For my first five years, I was the Assistant Director of Orthopaedic Trauma at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital and am presently a member of the Roanoke Orthopaedic Center.  I received my medical degree from the University of Virginia and subsequently continued there for my orthopaedic residency training.  I have completed a fellowship at the Insall-Scott-Kelly Institute for knee reconstruction and sports medicine.  My primary interest of practice is total joint replacement, knee ligamentous reconstruction, arthroscopic surgery, and management of complex injuries to the lower extremity.  I have also completed a fellowship in orthopaedic trauma through the A. O. Foundation in Munich, Germany.  I am a board certified member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, and also a member of the Association for Arthritic Hip and Knee Surgeons.

I look forward to serving the Board of the Virginia Orthopaedic Society in the coming years.

Jonathan Isaacs, MD

With my recent appointment to the VOS board, I wanted to introduce myself.  I am in my sixth year as full time faculty in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Virginia Commonwealth University Health System.  After completing medical school and residency at MCV/VCU, I spent a year at Duke University completing a fellowship in Hand and Microsurgery before returning to Richmond.  Although I initially included General Orthopaedics in my practice, I’ve narrowed my scope and now focus on hand, wrist, and microsurgical reconstruction including brachial plexus and free tissue transfers.

I’m actively involved in teaching residents and medical students and perform a modest amount of basic science and clinical research.  Currently, we are focused on nerve regeneration and repair in our microlab and partial wrist fusions in our biomechanics lab.  My additional efforts to contribute to the medical literature have included writing, editing, and reviewing for texts and journals.

When I’m not working, I try to spend my time with my wife, Christine, and my two beautiful daughters, Sophia and Olivia.  Christine also works at VCU as an Obstetrician and the girls are busy wrapping me around their fingers.
